Day-to-Night: Dash of Spice

On Fridays I’m usually inundated with paperwork and other miscellaneous issues at the office, but today I felt like nothing got in my way (it must just be the 4:00 coffee talking).  I am however looking forward to the exhilarating plans for the weekend and like any corporate New Yorker, I’m ready to pull out my playsuit, pour a glass of Prosecco, and tuck away these dress pants for a few days. So with a weekend packed with errands and events ahead of me, I know I'll barely be able to find the time to make a pitstop back to my apartment to change.  So here are some tips and tricks for going from day-to-night in a hot New York minute!

Styling – keep it simple. Try finding a few neutral-colored pieces made of lightweight fabrics to start off your look. This 3.1 Phillip Lim Trouser creates a nice casual look while the silky material gives it an added sheen.  Pairing it with a fitted top will help accentuate your silhouette and the backless feature is an added bonus!  Then add some bold accessories to finish off the look.  Go with a bright bag,  a pair of wedges (that will give you the day-time casual and a night-time boost), and a ring with intricate detailing.

Pants - 3.1 Phillip Lim Draped Pocket Trousers, LAGARCONNE; Rings - Net-a-Porter, Purse - Alexander McQueen, Net-a-porter; Shoes - Steve Madden Westii Platform Wedges, Bloomingdales; Halter - American Apparel; Bracelet - JCrew.

In my bag.  During the hot and humid summer months, I keep my routine simple (Uber-dry SPF30 by PeterThomasRoth, Bare Escentuals Matte for coverage, Nars Sin Blush/ Cargo Bronzer for color, and a coat of Make Up Forever Mascara).  Keeping my day make-up natural creates a nice, clean palette for me to work with when I’m on the go and ready to give a more dramatic look for the evening.

Make a pitstop to the bathroom before dinner and put your best face forward.  Subtle changes can make a big difference in this department.  Brighten up your face and make it look absolutely flawless with some mineral powder, and pump up your lips with a vibrant summer color.  This alone could give you a polished look but for some added drama, take your eyes to a whole new level with some liquid eyeliner.  And last but not least, take out that summer humidity and put some shine and controlled volume into your hair.  Here are some products I love to help me go from day-to-night, and the best part is that they all fit in my bag!
