NYFW | the recap part 1

Here's a series of recaps from some of the shows I attended so far and the looks I loved most, using some photos from the pit just because the quality is much better, but I'll be sure to share some of the good ones I was able to capture later on this week when I'm en-route to Barcelona.

Day 1 began with a handful of noteworthy collections like BCBG MaxAzria (covered here), Richard Chai Love, Tadashi Shoji, and Honor, all making it quite clear that Spring 2013 will deliver a palette of original prints, patterns, and an abundance of feminine flair.

At Richard Chai, beats were pumping out of every corner as the designer delivered yet another impressive show.  Redefining the meaning of "barely there" with his collection of breathtaking cutouts, sheer florals, and a-line and fitted mini-miniskirts, while a composite of sporty silhouettes and oversized anoraks gave the feminine appeal an overall balance.  Richard Chai did what he does best with his ability to make runway appear so effortless and accessible, even with a lot of bare midriff.

And just before the lights dimmed in the Theatre did Richard Chai bring out some lights of his own.  Intricate beading that shined iridescent... making a statement from head-to-toe, with the main focus being front and center.

Following swiftly after was Tadashi Shoji showering the stage with lace patterns, more lace, and a wide color palette, with the mainstay of evening gowns at its finest really, Shoji managed to reinvent evening wear without... reinventing the wheel... you know what I mean?  Classic silhouettes, free-flowing babydolls, in the most refined of ways.

Fast forward over to the West Side where I ended my day... high ruffled necklines, big shoulders, and cupcake skirts stole the show at Honor.  The brand kept it's usual feminine aesthetic but more importantly, incorporated downtown edge with a balance of high-waisted shorts and pops of muted yellows.  Marrying downtown and uptown in this collection was the best decision yet.
