Italian cuisine was a large part of my diet growing up and I often find myself craving my mom’s homemade pastas and sauces.  So when anyone makes a suggestion to try new Italian dishes, I jump all over the opportunity.

Well, this past weekend Zach and I took the chance to make a stop at the annual Feast of San Gennaro in Little Italy.  I’m not normally one to throw myself into the arms of hoards of tourists but I thought the food would be worth it.  Well, I was right – the food was great while the experience was rather ‘interesting’ and most of my friends agree that there wasn’t much Italian about this food.  Between the fried Oreos and Turkish pastries, I found myself eating a cheese-filled falafel over a pita topped with daikon radish and siracha.  Italian?  Not so much.  Good?  Absolutely.

As I slurped down two cups of lemonade, my eyes narrowed in on Stellina’s blondies and bombolinis.  And as if scarfing down these weren’t enough to hit the sweet spot, I added Rubirosa's fill-to-order cannolis.  So maybe my San Gennaro excursion finished off with a little Italian but is it enough to warrant a visit next year?

We'll see...
