Mallorca

Spain is by far one of my favorite places to travel. Even though my travel and food obsession started long before, Spain was actually the birthplace of my love for seafood. It was my first trip to Barcelona over ten years ago where I devoured more seafood and paella than I thought I was capable of. With not much on our travel itinerary, we randomly wandered the quaint alleyways, stepping into random haunts around the various neighborhoods. That’s pretty much how I travel at all times — no real itinerary, just a camera and some change in my bag.

So it was no surprise that arriving in Mallorca brought back so many memories. I had dreamt about its white sand beaches and indigo blue water for awhile now, so when my friend Grant was up for a last-minute adventure, we hopped on a plane and headed out for an end-of-summer celebration. We stayed on the Port de Sóller, just under an hour from the airport. The area is a beautiful port town overlooking looking straight out into the Balearic Sea, a tranquil departure from the rest of the world from the moment I checked in.

We rented a car and drove around the island, stopping by small towns as we made our way to beach days and ending the evenings at new restaurants with no reservations. My favorite day was when we discovered Cala S’Alumnia, a small alcove located on the other side of Calò des Moro where we followed up the evening with Aperol Spritz in Santanyi.

Wherever you turn your head, you’re bound to find something beautiful in Mallorca. Seek out the beautiful architecture and restaurant scene in Palma, visit the small shops throughout and eat the most delicious seafood in Deià, discover just about any of the beach towns after a day in the sun.
