As much as we love try new concoctions, there's nothing like going back to the classics.  Each month we'll be featuring a classic cocktail straight from the books.  This month it's the aviation -- a cocktail made with gin, maraschino liqueur, crème de violette, and lemon juice.  I've definitely come to appreciate gin over the years, so this cocktail is right up my alley.  The marriage of flavors isn't for everyone, especially someone who doesn't quite like gin, but the vibrant drink -- both in flavor and presentation -- is definitely worth a try.

Aviation

1 1/2 ounce gin

1 tsp Crème De Violette

1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur

3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice

1/4 ounce simple syrup

Preparation. In a mixing glass, add spirits & mixers. Then, fill with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.
