The Great Outdoors

Ever since I moved to New York I haven't had much time to explore the great outdoors. Aside from occasionally gallivanting through Central Park or making a visit to my rooftop to steal a peek at the Hudson, I rarely find a moment to venture outside of my concrete jungle, so when my boyfriend mentioned a trip to West Virginia for a weekend of camping and white water rafting, I was elated. Most of my friends disparage camping as a “fun” activity and tease me for being so excited since they imagine me to be some “city girl”… but little do they know that I’m a camping pro! We're only days away from heading out for the weekend, I am relieved to be ditching these fluorescent office lights for sun rays, s’mores, and some sweet Kumbaya around the campfire. Now, what to pack?

  1. Kiss My Face Lip Balm: Sliced Peach, $2.  Hydrate your lips and protect them from harmful UVRs while staying peachy keen. This lip balm is a must have in my camping kit.
  2. Ikat Scarf by Madewell, $58. Soft, silky, and bursting with a multitude of colors, this scarf is a perfect accessory to add to an evening around the campfire - wrap it around your neck/shoulder when the night skies bring a slight chill.
  3. Vintage Boots by Ralph Lauren, $600. Absolutely love. A staple to any camping outfit, the leather of these vintage boots will withstand all the twigs, dirt, and any summer climate you might be expecting.
  4. Burt's Bee All-Natural Bug Repellent, $5. Get all the protection without the Deet.  It's never cool to get a collection of bug bites on your legs, arms, or anywhere else for that matter, so protect your skin by adding this spray to your daily camping routine.
  5. Jeans Shorts by Mih, $155.  Rough it up with these cute white washed jean shorts.  Whether you're messing around the campfire kitchen or watching the boys fish at the river, you can style these shorts with any cute top.
  6. Plaid Shirt, Forever21 $18.  I can't go camping without my comfy plaid shirts.  Try pairing these with some jeans or a maxi to get the full plaid look.
  7. Leather Bracelet by Max&Chloe, $63.  Never leave home without your accessories.  There's something about leather that I can't resist.  Try to bring a brilliant piece of leather jewelry with you to add an accent to your outfits.
  8. Karen Walker Pilgrim Sunglass, $180.  Sunnies for a sunny day.  I love KW and I love these glasses.  Soak in the sun and protect your eyes with this beauty.  Perfect fit for almost any face shape, these beauties are durable and fashionable!
  9. Tote, American Apparel $56.  It's going to be a long trek to the campsite, so tote around necessities in this cute AATote.  Perfect for any outing, this tote is heavyweight and will hold A LOT.
