a few good things | the poplin button down

Lower Manhattan is still in what seems like a post-apocalyptic state at the moment, and with the hard work and efforts of ConEd, power will most likely be restored later this evening. Even though I have been safely huddled uptown -- rotating between sweat pants and pajamas and not to mention flipping between Señor Bloomberg's updates and Netflix How Stuff Works -- I decided to wander down toward the darkness yesterday, and to no surprise at all, discovered that Downtown needs to be fully restored before I take another step south.

So now what has my retreat uptown left me doing? Collaging over essential pieces, of course. Work or play, the classic poplin shirt is one of those pieces that can be worn in a multitude of way. On the left is essentially what work outfits closely resemble -- some form of trousers and a pair of classic pumps, so incorporating a button down is a no-brainer. To the right, a fresh outfit for a more casual look - sandals, an oversized leather jacket, and a clutch (really, all I carry these days).

Calvin Klein Shirt (Find a great in-store alternatives at UNIQLO). On the left: Equipment cashmere sweater | Alexander McQueen plaid trousers | MakeUp Forever lipstick | Giles and Brother bracelet | 3.1Phillip Lim tote | Manolo Blahnik Pumps. On the right: 3.1 Phillip Lim clutch | Topshop leather jacket | Jennifer Zeuner necklace | Adia Kibur Mixed ring set | Nicholas Sandal | JBrand jeans.
