work it out
There was once a time when I thought designer denim passed for "professional attire". It's true. I was a fresh-faced teen embarking on my first job ever, and I had very little sense of such standards. A few years went by, I moved to New York, worked in an industry where suits became mandatory (every now and again), pencil skirts were measured below the knee, and integrating a personal style became harder. Dressing in the rain, snow, wind also became additional obstacles. I found myself just stuck in rotation of pieces -- pencil skirt, suit pants, etc -- though they were staples, they just grew stale after a while. Dressing for work has changed dramatically for me in the past few years, but I still believe that it's important to look put together whether you're working from your home office or in a corporate environment, even if you're slouching in your chair all day (refer to pictures 1 and 3). A pair of classic trousers in a more unique style always help break my cycle of boredom when it comes to work wear. These pair with a bit of sheen are easily dressed down with a comfortable knit... and are a great transitional piece for an office to out look on the busier weekdays.
