Marfa Prada
Finally had the opportunity to visit West Texas during our road trip a few weeks ago, and I have to admit, it was everything I imagined -- the view of an endless horizon, the calm of a quiet desert backdrop, and everything in between from food to hospitality. What a dream. First stop. Marfa, Texas. Population less than two thousand (according to the latest census).
Christina and I cavorted through the quiet town peeking into abandoned houses, imagining the possibility of being neighbors in what we deemed as complete seclusion. The truth is, I would probably go a bit stir crazy after a few years but who knows, it might be just the life I'll need then. The trendy little town is robust with culture and art, juxtaposed with the quintessential Texas lifestyle. Even though our visit was short, we made an effort to see all the major art installations around Marfa, and of course 20 something miles out of Highway 90, we made a stop to see the highlight -- the standalone Marfa Prada installation.
We took the short visit to snap a few photos, take a peek into the store, wave hello to the security cameras, and do a few cartwheels down the highway. The installation is exactly what you see in photos, but there's something about that in-person experience, standing in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nothing that makes the trip all worthwhile.
